Hospital Based Massage Therapy – First Class Externship

The Hospital Based Massage Therapy (HBMT) class offered at Lexington Healing Arts Academy launched its inaugural session in April 2014. This is the first program of its kind in Kentucky and we are proud to be able to offer such valuable advanced training.

Oncology massage is the adaptation of massage techniques to safely nurture the body of someone affected by cancer or its treatments.  You can learn more about this practice at the website for the Society for Oncology Massage.

Our intensive training course educates licensed massage therapists on the pathophysiology of cancer and types of cancer treatments.

Benefits for the massage recipients include relief from physical pain as well as relief from stress, worry, depression, and the inability to sleep – all symptoms that can be prevalent in people living with cancer.

A growing number of cancer and hospitalized patients and their care providers are realizing a need for holistic methods to ease their symptoms. Hospital Based Massage can be safely administered to any hospitalized patient with cancer or other conditions, regardless of the severity of their illness.

Our HBMT class recently completed their first externship day at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. We are excited about the wonderful service our therapists can provide to oncology patients at the hospital now and into the future.
