Al, one of LHAA’s personal fitness trainers, demonstrates how to properly do a medicine ball diagonal chop. This is a great core exercise to strengthen the core that engages the oblique muscles and can also challenge your balance.
Begin with a medicine ball with a weight that is challenging for you but not too heavy. Start the movement by holding it up above your head and over to one side. Use a chopping motion to bring the ball down and across your body toward the opposite knee. Make sure your knees are soft and your core is tucked in throughout the chopping motion.
Add even more challenge by raising the leg opposite of the side where you start the chop. This will really challenge your balance and engage your core muscles even more.
Al likes to teach his personal fitness training clients this exercise for core and oblique strengthening as well as balance work.
